Just a odd question out of the blue...
When you find a pattern you like but turn out to be crochet and you don't crochet at all, it is "portable" to a knitting one easily? Is it even feasible? Or do I have to learn to crochet?

it depends on the pattern -- shape/texture matters.
i find crochet not that hard in principle. in reality, a bit of a pain (esp. in figuring out tension -- very different from knitting!).
I think that it'll be quite complex...
FIrst, the pattern is in Japanese. Second, I have never crochetted. If I can stick with knitting, I prefer. :)
I am talking about this pattern: http://mycrochetstuff.googlepages.com/crochetbags,hats,andotheraccessories-aja
and it looks like this:

maybe you can do something similar with a knitted version...found a few using 'knitting pattern newboy cap" in google search:

i haven't looked in ravelry but maybe you can find a couple there as well. :)
Crochet is not very hard. I could certainly teach you the basics. But I'm not so sure about following a Japanese crochet pattern. I suspect you could find a newsboy cap pattern in knitting or at least in English. :)
